Jimmy A. Burke

Jimmy A. Burke was appointed to the Board of Commissioners of the Port of Houston Authority in 1999. He represents the Harris County Mayors’ and Councils’ Association, an organization representing 26 cities in Harris County. Commissioner Burke chairs the Community Relations Task Force and serves on the Procurement and Small Business Development Task Force.

A Deer Park resident since 1954, he is a retiree of Shell Oil Company’s Deer Park Manufacturing Complex following 35 years of service.

Commissioner Burke has been an active in the Deer Park community in both civic and governmental activities for more than 40 years including nine-terms as Mayor of Deer Park from 1981-1999. Prior to being elected Mayor, Commissioner Burke served six terms on the Deer Park City Council from 1969-1981. Burke’s career includes serving as President of the Texas Municipal League (1997-98) which represents more than 1,000 cities. Most recently, he was appointed by Texas Governor Rick Perry to the San Jacinto Historical Advisory Board for a term to expire September 1, 2015.
