BaySmart Waterborne Education Field Program
The BaySmart waterborne education field program just completed a banner year with assistance from the Port of Houston Authority. PHA’s grant enabled the organization to provide 19 excursions, serving 1,451 students from 29 schools in five school districts. 2006 Summer Interns
Port of Houston Authority commissioners got to meet with 2006 summer interns at their June port commission meeting. A total of 18 college students are participating in the program under the PHA sponsorship.

MS 150 PHA Team
Members of the Port of Houston Authority’s MS 150 Team turned out in force on the morning of April 22, to participate in the 23rd annual 180 mile long fund-raiser that ended in Austin the next day. The team exceeded its goal of $29,000 in pledges.

PHA Employees Deliver for Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center
Port of Houston Authority employees, tenants, vendors, contractors and retirees gave the gift of life in a December blood drive that resulted in an all-time yearly record for the port authority.
Participates donated a total of 43 units of blood in the PHA December blood drive, bringing the yearly total of donations to a record 243 units. The 2006 total exceeds the previous year’s total by 23 units.
A total of 33 potential donors attempted to give blood at the PHA Executive Building and 22, including four who donated red cells were successful. There was one first-time donor.
At Barbours Cut Terminal, 21 units were collected from the 26 employees who attempted to donate. The group also included one first-time donor.
