Before Arriving at the Terminal
Have complete and correct documentation (see documentation requirements)
Know the booking number and steamship line (Your arrival/departure may be delayed if you don't have correct information)

If you plan to Load Out, Load In, or Empty Out, use the Container Inquiry Telephone System, 713-678-7600, or the Container and Booking Information web link to verify:
1) the status of an import container
2) if the booking is on file

All containers must be clean inside when returned
 
When You Arrive at the Terminal
Proceed to the security gate and obtain a gate pass (if arriving at BCT see SS Line Entry Stations for correct gate)
Proceed to the truck entry lane
Additional Instructions for:
  IMPORT LOAD OUT IMPORT BY ROAD
  EMPTY OUT REDELIVER EXPORT
  EXPORT LOAD IN CHASSIS OUT
  EMPTY IN CHASSIS IN
Import Load Out
Give the completed Transaction Request and Delivery Order (with Container # and Bill of Lading #) to the lane clerk
The lane clerk will give you an Equipment Interchange Receipt (EIR)
If chassis is needed, get authorization to pick up a chassis at the chassis yard
Be sure to mark that you are picking up chassis on the Transaction Request
Proceed to the location specified on the EIR to pick up the container
Upon picking up the container, verify the actual container number against the container number on the EIR
Proceed to the exit lane to have the container inspected
Give the EIR and the gate pass to the lane clerk
Empty Out
Give the completed Transaction Request to the lane clerk. Empty tanks must also have a delivery order.
The lane clerk will give you an Equipment Interchange Receipt (EIR)
If chassis is needed, get authorization to pick up a chassis at the chassis yard
Be sure to mark that you are picking up chassis on the Transaction Request
After the container is loaded on the chassis, inspect the container for damages
Proceed to the exit lane for final inspection
Give the EIR and the gate pass to the lane clerk
Export Load In
Give the appropriate shipping documents (see documentation requirements) and completed Transaction Request to the lane clerk

The lane clerk will give you an Equipment Interchange Receipt (EIR)

The lane clerk will inspect the container. OVERWEIGHT CONTAINERS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED
Proceed to the location specified on the EIR to drop the container
If you need to drop your chassis, have the chassis inspected at the chassis office and dolly down in the designated location in the chassis yard
Be sure to mark that you are dropping a chassis on the Transaction Request.
Proceed to the exit lane for an inspection of the EIR
Give the gate pass to the lane clerk
Empty In
Give the appropriate shipping documents (see documentation requirements) and completed Transaction Request to the lane clerk
Give the completed Transaction Request to the lane clerk
Inspect the container with the lane clerk
The lane clerk will give you an Equipment Interchange Receipt (EIR)
Proceed to the location specified on the EIR to drop the container
If you need to drop your chassis, have the chassis inspected at the chassis office and dolly down in the designated location in the chassis yard
Be sure to mark that you are dropping a chassis on the Transaction Request
Proceed to the exit lane
Give the gate pass to the lane clerk
Import by Road
Give the completed Transaction Request (with Import by Road marked) to the lane clerk
Authority to accept Import by Road must be faxed from the SS Line on their letterhead with Container # and Vessel Name before an EIR can be produced.
After receipt of letter of authority, the lane clerk will give you an Equipment Interchange Receipt (EIR)
The lane clerk will inspect the container. OVERWEIGHT CONTAINERS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED
Proceed to the location specified on the EIR to drop the container
If you need to drop your chassis, have the chassis inspected at the chassis office and dolly down in the designated location in the chassis yard
Be sure to mark that you are dropping a chassis on the Transaction Request
Proceed to the exit lane for an inspection of the EIR
Give the gate pass to the lane clerk
Redeliver Export
Give the completed Transaction Request (with Redeliver Export marked) to the lane clerk
The lane clerk will give you an Equipment Interchange Receipt (EIR)
If chassis is needed, get authorization to pick up a chassis at the chassis yard
Be sure to mark that you are picking up chassis on the Transaction Request
Proceed to the location specified on the EIR to pick up the container
Upon picking up the container, verify the actual container number against the container number on the EIR
Proceed to the exit lane to have the container inspected
Give the EIR and the gate pass to the lane clerk
Chassis Out
Give the completed Transaction Request to the lane clerk
The lane clerk will give you an Equipment Interchange Receipt (EIR)
Proceed to the chassis yard to pick up the chassis
Make sure the stencil on the chassis matches the SS Line on the EIR
Proceed to the exit lane to have the chassis inspected
Give the EIR and the gate pass to the lane clerk
Chassis In
Give the completed Transaction Request to the lane clerk
If bringing a chassis into BCT, check equipment locations to make sure BCT accepts equipment for the SS Line Chassis you are bringing in
The lane clerk will give you an Equipment Interchange Receipt (EIR)
Proceed to the chassis yard to drop the chassis
Give the EIR and the gate pass to the lane clerk
