Strategic Planning

The strategic plan helps focus Port of Houston Authority efforts and resources and guide planning and decision-making by all Port Authority staff to fulfill our vision and mission.

Reevaluating and updating the strategic plan also helps ensure that the Port Authority continues to stay on this course.

This is the third update to the staff’s Strategic Plan since its initial release and is an intermediate step toward a new strategic process. While the PHA’s overarching principles – including mission, vision, core values and strategic initiatives – have remained largely unchanged, the latest plan document:

• Updates current situation and trends, and action items
• Adds two new sections: a progress update (to highlight recent progress on meeting objectives) and priority tasks (to set out next year’s goals)
• Directs focus on strategic, not tactical steps

Over the next year, Port Authority staff will be working extensively on a new, revamped Strategic Plan for 2014, seeking input and feedback from the Port Commission and stakeholders.
