Possessing a TWIC does not grant automatic access to Port Authority restricted area facilities. There must be a reason to be on property, and approval for access. TWIC is administered by the Transportation Security Administration. For more information on how to apply for TWIC, go to www.tsa.gov/twic.
U.S. Coast Guard regulations allow for certain non-TWIC holders to be escorted in restricted and secure areas as long as they have a reason to be on the property and are approved for access. Persons being escorted are required to present valid approved ID.
At Port Authority operated terminals, a PHA Escort Credential is required in order to perform escort duties. An escort card may be issued according to current port procedures, which includes both company and Port Authority approval. To apply for escort privileges, complete the Escort Nomination Form, and plan to attend a 2014 Escort Training Class or a 2015 Escort Training Class. Upon approval and completion of the course, an escort card will be issued by the Port Authority Credentialing Office.
Remember, escort credentials and access to Port Authority facilities may be revoked by the Port Authority if regulations and port procedures are not followed.
