Administrative Manager

This position reports to the Vice President of Public Affairs.

Principal Duties/Responsibilities:

Supervise the administrative staff and provide administrative support for the Public Affairs Division.
Management and coordination of day-to-day administrative workflow of division.
Prepare, analyze and monitor the division budget and related financial statistical data to produce relevant reports for division management.
Coordinate and participate in meetings, conferences and project team activities.
Research and investigate information to enable strategic decision-making by Vice President and other division managers.

Requirements:

Degree in Business Administration and five (5) years of executive level administrative experience preferred or ten (10) years of related experience in a business environment.
Must have supervisory experience.
Must have demonstrated five (5) years of budget related experience.
Must have proven records of accomplishment relevant to event coordination and planning.
Must have three (3) years of customer service experience.
Must have experience with PC and software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
Must be able to multi-task and work with moderate pressure, meeting deadlines and constant interruptions.
Must be able to coordinate several administrative functions into a coherent unity.
Must possess a high degree of accuracy in performing administrative tasks and pay strict attention to detail.
Must be willing and able to work extended hours and weekends (often unscheduled), if necessary.

Assistant Communications Manager

This position reports to the Communications Manager.

Requirements:

A Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, English or related field or ten (10) years of direct experience in the communications field.
Must have seven (7) or more years of experience in program communication, marketing and/or media relations.
Must have good networking capital among U.S. and international mass media plus operative best practice in public and media relations.
Must have expert knowledge of speech writing and all communication related tasks.
Must have experience with PC and Microsoft Office Suite.
Must have strong skills in professional use of English in verbal and written communications.
Must have the ability to effectively work under and meet high deadlines and manage projects independently.
Must have excellent organizational and problem solving skills and the ability to pay close attention to detail.
Must have supervisory experience.
Must possess a high degree of work ethics, professionalism and judgment.
Must have excellent interpersonal skills and a positive attitude.
Prior association and/or international business markets experience, desired.
Social media development and management experience, a plus.

 

Chief Economist

This position reports to the Vice President of Strategic Planning.

Requirements:

Postgraduate degree, preferably a Ph.D. in Economics.
Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience and successful track record in applied economics and strategic planning.
Excellent managerial skills, including proven ability to lead, work in teams, mentor staff, and inspire staff commitment to technical excellence and teamwork.
Extensive knowledge of the Houston metropolitan region's economy and demographics.
Strong quantitative background in economic data analysis and forecasting.
Demonstrated expertise and first-hand experience in cost-benefit analysis, economic impact analysis methodologies, econometric modeling, as well as other economic decision support tools.
Superior ability to communicate economic ideas, orally and in writing, to a varied audience.
Experience, knowledge, or interest in transportation economics is highly desirable.
NOTE:
Relocation assistance will be considered.

Corporate Controller

This position reports to the Vice President of Finance and Administration.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance and a minimum of ten (10) years experience as a Financial Officer or Controller.
Must have a minimum of ten (10) years of financial and management experience with day-to-day financial responsibilities of an organization with a budget of at least $100 million.
Must be a Certified Public Accountant.
Working knowledge of Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).
Working knowledge of JD Edwards preferred.
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Must have excellent analytical and organizational skills.
Must have excellent computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Position requires willingness to work a flexible schedule.
NOTE:

Director, Operational Planning & Analysis

This position reports to the Vice President, Container Terminals

Requirements:

Must have a MBA and a minimum of five (5) years experience in financial analysis and strategic planning.
Must have experience in investment planning and preparation of operating budgets in capital intensive industry.
Knowledge and experience in transportation industry is desirable.
Excellent ability to communicate ideas written and orally both internally and externally.

 

Equipment Maintenance Superintendent

This position reports to the Assistant Maintenance Manager.

Requirements:

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an accredited university in Mechanical, Electrical or Marine Engineering is desired or a minimum of five (5) years experience in the management of maintenance, repair and/or assembly of equipment used specifically in a large container terminal operation.
Must have a minimum of five (5) years experience as a superintendent in a maintenance environment.
Minimum of five (5) years experience in port operations and maintenance is desired.
Must have experience in the electrical and/or mechanical maintenance of cranes and other heavy equipment.
Must have established knowledge of preventive maintenance and repair practices and procedures.
Must be proficient in the use of personal computer including spreadsheet, database and word processing programs.
Must have a proven background in the supervision and management of a large workforce of skilled craftsman.
Must have a positive attitude and good communication skills.

Foreman

This position reports to the Senior Director, Central Maintenance.

Requirements:

Must have a high school diploma.
Must have ten (10) years experience in all phases of maintenance and repairs to industrial facilities.

Must have a Texas C.D.L.

Must have a thorough knowledge of equipment maintenance, welding, fabricating, road work, concrete work, cables and hydraulics.
A general knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, cranes and electrical desired.
Must have a good knowledge of safety precautions necessary to deal with occupational hazards.
Must have ability to supervise and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Must have the ability to operate M-5 maintenance management program on the computer.

 


 

 

Mentoring Program Manager

This position reports to the Director of Small Business.

Requirements:

Must have a Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Building Construction, Civil or Structural Engineering and a minimum of five (5) years experience in construction management. Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas preferred.
Must be knowledgeable in contract requirements, bonding, terms and conditions for engineering services and construction contracts.
Must be familiar with bond procedures for payment and performance bonds and familiar with insurance related to construction operations.
Must have extensive experience in the design and preparation of plans and technical specification writing for engineering projects. Experience with marine facilities preferred.
Must have knowledge of construction techniques and sequences, be able to read construction drawings and building codes, and evaluate product technology by reviewing trade journals and manufacturer's recommendation of materials.
Must be capable of working independently without extensive direction or supervision in managing aspects of a project. The individual must possess and demonstrate personal initiative, be detail oriented and technically competent.
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must also be capable of communicating with staff, outside contractors, vendors, consultants and general public in a professional manner.
Must be proficient with MS Office Professional XP and MS Office Access.

 

Real Estate Project Manager

This position reports to the Real Estate Manager.

Requirements:

Must have a Bachelor's degree in Business or a related field.
Must have a minimum of seven (7) years experience in industrial or commercial real estate. Must have experience in a real estate environment working in sales and leasing and/or title work.
Work requires computer software experience in the Microsoft Office Suite and JD Edwards.
Must have the ability to pay close attention to detail in prioritizing various tasks and working independently with minimal supervision in project management roles.
Must have keen audio visual perception and ability to operate standard office equipment.
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
Must have the ability to operate a vehicle and walk during property inspections.

 

Senior Programmer/Analyst

This position reports to the Information Technology Applications Manager.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or MIS and a minimum of five (5) years of experience and progressive responsibility in software design, implementation and support. A minimum of eight (8) years experience may be substituted for the degree requirement. Experience must include the following at an advanced or expert level:
>Current, hands-on experience with the JD Edwards Suite of applications.
>Current, hands-on experience with Microsoft Visual Studio.
>Current, hands-on experience with PERL scripting.
>Demonstrated experience in software development methodology.
>Functional experience with Oracle and SQL Server databases as they relate to software development and Crystal Report writing.
>Must be able to work as part of a support and development team with other IT team members and the user community.
>This position involves a high degree of customer interaction, so verbal and written communication skills are especially important in this role, both with the IT peer group and with management.
>Must demonstrate a willingness to commit the additional time and effort necessary during periods of heavy workload in order to meet project milestones and implementation deadlines.
Additional skills preferred but not required:
>Experience and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite of products, including MS Access.
>Experience with end-user support and application development in Microsoft SharePoint.
>Familiarity with change control and management processes and procedures.
>Experience developing web-enabled applications accessing ORacle and SQL Server databases.
>Exposure to the transportation industry, including logistics, shipping and large-scale industrial environments.
>Experience with Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), a huge plus.

Training Specialist

This position reports to the Director, Training and Development.

Requirements:

Must have a Bachelor's degree in Adult Learning, Training & Development, Education, Communication or other equivalent curriculum that focuses on learning.
Must have a minimum of five (5) years experience in Training and Development.
Must have excellent written and oral communication skills; the ability to organize time and work effectively; strong analytical skills and the ability to exercise good judgment.
Must have excellent leadership qualities which include the ability to collaborate and work effectively with all levels of management.
Must have strong presentation skills; the ability to engage audiences and maintain audiences' interests.
Must possess strong motivation, initiative, attention to detail and exhibit a friendly and customer focused attitude.
Must have working knowledge of learning management systems.
Must have advanced PC skills (Windows environment) and proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite.
Must have a Texas Driver License and own vehicle.
Must be able to multi-task or change priorities as required.
Creative graphic design skills a plus.
Bilingual a plus.
Must be able to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) card within ninety (90) days of employment.
Candidate should be able to provide training work samples upon request.
Candidate should be able to develop a mock presentation of their training and presentation skills.

The Port of Houston Authority's college internship program is open to students who are permanent residents of Harris County, Texas and currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate degree programs.

Housing and transportation are not included. Pre-employment drug screening is mandatory for all selected candidates.
