Administrative Assistant I

This position reports to the Communications Manager.

Requirements:

Must have a high school education; some college work desired.
Two (2) to five (5) years of administrative or secretarial experience preferred.
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills with clear telephone diction and etiquette.
Must be proficient in basic computer software applications and office equipment (e.g. fax, copier) operations.
Must have appropriate interpersonal skills.
Must have a minimum typing speed of 50 wpm.
Must provide attention to detail and exhibit adept ability to work on deadlines.

Administrative Assistant I

This position reports to the Community Relations Manager.

Requirements:

Must have two (2) years of college education and five (5) years of administrative experience.
Must have strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
Must be proficient with personal computers and Microsoft Office Professional XP.
Must be capable of working with only moderate supervision and with frequent interruptions.
Must exhibit friendly and courteous customer service skills and a cooperative spirit.

Construction Inspector

This position reports to the Chief Construction Inspector.

Requirements:

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent; ten (10) years experience in heavy and/or marine construction inspection; vocational training in reading blueprints or comparable experience.
Must be able to work independently; responsible for contractor's strict adherence of materials and procedure in plans and specifications.
Must be able to stand and observe details attentively while being frequently interrupted. Must be able to work to meet deadlines. Must be capable of excellent mobility around construction sites and able to climb ladders and stairs, capable of working at heights up to 200 feet above grade and move through crawlways in structures and equipment. Must be able to operate motor vehicle without special equipment.
Must be capable of performing written calculations and producing project documentation. Must be able to read and write English.
Color vision required. Must be capable of communicating with engineers, CADD operators, consultants, contractors and members of the public. Must be able to use a norman telephone.

Contract Administrator - Engineering

This position reports to the Administrative Manager.

Requirements:

Must have a high school education or equivalent; three (3) years experience in contract administration preferred.
Must be knowledgeable in contract requirements, terms and conditions for engineering services and construction contracts.
Must be familiar with bond procedures for payment and performance bonds.
Must be familiar with insurance related to construction operations.
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must also be capable of communicating with staff and outside contractors, consultants and general public in a professional manner.
Must be proficient with MS Office Professional XP and MS Office Access.
Must be capable of accessing files and operating copying and other office equipment machines.
Works independently with supervision from the Administrative Manager.
Must be detailed oriented.

Facility Security Officer

This position reports to the Port Security & Emergency Operations Manager.

Requirements:

Must have a minimum of seven (7) years experience in security related operations; two (2) years experience directly related to the Marine Transportation Security Act preferred.
General knowledge on a range of issues such as: security administration, relevant international maritime security laws, federal maritime security regulations, current security threat assessments, risk analysis methodology, inspections control procedures and conduction of audits.
Must be able to pass a criminal background check, physical examination and drug/alcohol screening test.
Must be able to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) card within three (3) months of employment.
Must have a valid Driver's License.
Must have intermediate skills with MIcrosoft Office Suite of applications.
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as presentation skills.
NOTE:
This job is identified as a mission essential position.

Financial Planning Analyst

This position reports to the Financial Planning Manager.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Business, Financial Accounting or a related field or extensive training and experience in Port financial planning; Master's degree is preferred.
Must have a minimum of four (4) years experience in business planning and business analysis.
Must have comprehensive computer skills in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, database software and other automated financial systems and applications software. Knowledge of Lawson, Crystal and JD Edwards is preferred.
Must have the ability to compile, analyze interpret and present annual financial reports, statements and/or projections.
Must have skills in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures.
Must have the ability to provide technical guidance in area of expertise.
Must have the ability to plan, assist in implementing financial information and control systems.

PHA Internship Program

The Port of Houston Authority's college internship program is open to students who are permanent residents of Harris County, Texas and currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate degree programs.

Housing and transportation are not included. Pre-employment drug screening is mandatory for all selected candidates.
