Our trade development staff work with potential customers and facilitate connections with shipping lines, local real estate, landside transportation providers, and whatever else potential customers may need to begin shipping via the Port of Houston. The trade development team put potential customers in touch with Houston’s many economic development organizations, which assist relocating business and help them obtain tax breaks and other financial incentives.

Inquiries from outside the US are welcome. The trade development staff can speak Spanish, Portuguese, and Chinese. Trade development representatives are maintained in Latin America, Brazil, and 14 countries around Asia.

The Trade Development & Marketing Division’s market development professionals handle marketing and business-to-business advertising for the port, as well as market research including statistics and forecasting.

The Port of Houston's Foreign Trade Zone #84 is a U.S. Customs designated Foreign Trade Zone, which can provide relief from customs duties and certain other taxes for products handled through the zone, similar to a "free port" or "free zone" in other countries.
